Visits

Sherbrooke is an innovation-oriented city.

The Université de Sherbrooke's Innovation Park encourages regional, national and international scientific R&D initiatives by facilitating and supporting interaction and synergy among top industrial R&D specialists. Symposium participants will have the chance to visit Innovation Park which consists of:

  • The Bombardier-UdeS Centre for Advanced Technology (CTA) operating since 2008 in the development of specialized vehicles and advanced technologies (www.cta-brp-udes.com/en);
  • The Interdisciplinary Institute for Technological Innovation (3IT) offering since 2012 an outstanding environment for design, prototyping, and assessment, ranging from nanotechnologies up to systems and their applications (www.usherbrooke.ca/3it/english/home/).

We have also organized an exciting lab visit in Sherbrooke:

  • NGCLAB, housing several high-tech instruments for the validation of space systems in a realistic environment before their use in space. A 3D mapping system will be demonstrated as well as a crater-based optical navigation system for Moon landing using a robot-on-rail system and a mock-up of the Moon surface.

...as well as plant visits in nearby Montreal (limited number of participants - first come, first served basis):

  • Bell Helicopter's modern manufacturing facility where they produce all of Bell's commercial helicopters;
  • Bombardier Aerospace's commercial aircraft manufacturing facility where they produce the C Series.

Organization

All visits will take place on Wednesday, August 24, in the afternoon. Participants will be divided into three groups:

  • NGCLAB, 3IT and CTA (in Sherbrooke),
  • Bell Helicopter (in Montreal),
  • Bombardier Aerospace (in Montreal).

Transportation will be provided.
